I’m Nora Chavez, a native of this region. I’ll be working with historians, genealogists and families throughout the Southwest to help coordinate the project. I know first-hand the power of such family stories and artifacts.
I worked for a number of years in community engagement and will be working closely with Joyce Gonzales, New Mexico Genealogist, to develop rural/regional family support groups with Baca-related families throughout the Southwest. My background in community engagement comes from my work with the Save The Children Federation, New Mexico Community Foundation and, more recently, with UNM’s New Mexico Cares Health Disparities Center. I received my BBA through American Intercontinental University with a major in business administration and global marketing. I am also a costumer and artist and was trained at the prestigious Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising.

I am a member of the Baca family and have been working on Baca family genealogy, with the help of the Hispanic Genealogical Research Center of New Mexico, for many years. I would love to connect every living Baca family member to our 400-year history so that we may preserve and celebrate our rich heritage.
